The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today the Charge d'Affairs of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo Paul-Emile Tshinga Ahuka.

Djukic-Dejanovic highlighted the need to improve interparliamentary relations via special parliamentary bodies that would contribute to the overall cooperation between Serbia and Congo.

The officials agreed that economic cooperation, particularly in the field of energy production, should be raised to a higher level. “All the signed documents aimed at improving Serbia’s economic relations with other countries will be the Serbian Parliament’s priority”, the Assembly Speaker stated adding that “although joining the European Union is the priority of Serbia’s foreign policy, cooperation with countries with which we enjoy traditionally good relations, like Congo, is also an important segment of Serbia’s foreign policy”.

Thanking the Speaker for the interest and constructive conversation, Ahuka added that this meeting marks “a new stage in the development of bilateral relations between Serbia and Congo” and informed her that the Congolese Foreign Minister would be visiting Serbia at the end of March of this year at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vuk Jeremic.
